And Now, Our Feature Presentation... Thursday Thirteen!

In keeping with my penchant for pop culture, today's Thursday Thirteen features a baker's dozen of my favorite movie quotes. Some are probably familiar; there may be a handful that aren't quite as well-known. The one thing they have in common is that I have whipped them out and dropped them into conversation more times than I can count.

So settle back into your reclining theater seat, take a hit off that ginormous soda you got roped into buying at the concession stand and take a trip though my cinematic history.

PS: the quotes are in chronological order. Asking me to pick a favorite is like asking the paparazzi to choose between Madge/A Rod/Guy and Sienna Miller making out with Balthazar Getty. Can't be done.

No, I don't think I will kiss you, although you need kissing, badly. That's what's wrong with you. You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how.

~ Rhett Butler (Clark Gable) in Gone with the Wind (1939)

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
~ The Wizard of Oz (Frank Morgan) in The Wizard of Oz (1939)

You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow.
~ Marie (Lauren Bacall) in To Have and Have Not (1944)

Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death.
~ Mame (Rosalind Russell) in Auntie Mame (1958)

I've had hangovers before, but this time, even my hair hurts.
~ Brad Allen (Rock Hudson) in Pillow Talk (1959)

Mrs. Robinson, you're trying to seduce me, aren't you?
~ Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) in The Graduate (1967)

I am the author. You are the audience. I outrank you!
~ Franz Liebkind (Kenneth Mars) in The Producers (1967)

The horror... the horror...
~ Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando) in Apocalypse Now (1979)

So I got that going for me, which is nice.
~ Carl Spackler (Bill Murray) in Caddyshack (1980)

It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.
~ David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) in This Is Spinal Tap (1984)

Miss Truvy, I promise that my personal tragedy will not interfere with my ability to do good hair.
~ Annelle (Daryl Hannah) in Steel Magnolias (1989)

Wow, you've turned into a right sexy wee bastard. Do you know that?
~ May Mackenzie (Brenda Fricker) in So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993)

You know what they call a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in Paris?... They call it a Royale with cheese.
— Vincent Vega (John Travolta) in Pulp Fiction (1994)

I'm quite pleased with myself that I recognized several of those!

I recognized almost all of them! You must have picked from my era. I don't think I would recognize a quote from any movies that came out in the last five years!

My all time favorite quote:

You're going to need a bigger boat...Chief Brody in JAWS

Loved your list!

Those are some hot lines!

Rhett is exactly right!

Well, you know what they say: if you don't have anything nice to say about anybody, come sit by me!

Excellent idea for a TT!

The Rhett Butler line makes me laugh because of something that Vivian Leigh reportedly said about Clark Gable. Apparently she wasn't fond of kissing him because his dentures smelled awful.

You have a wide range of quotes here. Rosalind Russell is the Star of the Month on TCM so I have been checking out some of her films that they are airing on Tuesday nights. I believe that Auntie Mame comes on next week.

I can't believe there's somebody else that has an Apocolypse Now quote! All these years, and I've never met anyone else ;D

Mine is: "I love the smell of napalm in the morning!"

We're a family of quoters, which works well for us, but causes many weird looks from friends and family as we generally quote off-beat or sci-fi shows.

Great TT!

Steel Magnolias is one of my favourite - it's a proper weepy!!!!

We did the stage version at school and we made 4 or 5 members of staff cry because of it lol. (Even one of the tough teachers who was scary!)

The line I always remember is "It's blush and bashful, it's pink and pink"

I love this one from All About Eve:

Funny business, a woman's career: the things you drop on the way up the ladder so you can move faster. You forget you'll need them again when you get back to being a woman. It's one career all females have in common, whether we like it or not: being a woman. Sooner or later, we've got to work at it, no matter how many other careers we've had or wanted.

And now I must check out fearandparentinginlasvegas for quoting All About Eve. Although my fave from that movie is "How nice for Lloyd. How nice for Eve. How nice for everybody!"

And I use "pay no attention..." as much as humanly possible :)
